Overview

As much as Melbourne's dining scene bristles with good vibes, when you head out for a bite to eat, no one really expects the strangers at the next table to become their best pals. However, Marty's Supper Club is all about connecting with people you've never met over a stellar meal. Returning for its second instalment on Friday, July 3, this French-focused evening aims to turn fifty strangers into old friends by the time dessert is served.

Happening at Port Melbourne's Frontside Food & Wine, talking to the person next to you is all part of the fun. Spanning two long tables, but with zero assigned friend groups, you're more than welcome to turn up solo or with a gregarious friend. What's more, the food and drinks are no afterthought. The cost of a ticket comes with unlimited beer and wine, plus you can shout a round of curated cocktails for you and your new friends.

In the kitchen, chef Gian Lesnjak is behind the French-leaning menu, with a three-course treat on the agenda. Think braised leeks in a guanciale-fat vinaigrette to start, Murray cod steak frites and a burnt-onion beurre blanc for mains, then a spiced apple tarte tatin with caramelised honey and lemon thyme ice cream to close things out. Then, behind the bar, this edition of Marty's Supper Club features pours by Something Wines, Fellow Vodka, Mon Cherry and CBCo Brewing.

Guided by Damian Coe (Coe and Coe), Caitlyn Mefflin and Tim O'Sullivan (Shout The Bar), this trio embarked on the idea behind Marty's Supper Club after growing sick of the same weekend routine. So, whether you're tired of spending too much time with the barflies at your local, or you're just looking to expand your social horizons, this pop-up affair might just be your ticket to a night out where you leave with more friends than when you arrived.
