Overview

Melbourne's annual winter festival, RISING, sprawls over a lot of the CBD, but the official hub is Night Trade, presented by UP. This is a 'fluid space of curated chaos', according to the RISING brochure, taking over the grounds of St. Paul's Cathedral from June 7 to June 18.

It's where you go to get fed, plan your next move, and gawk at incredible art installations, light shows and live performances. It's also a short stroll from RISING's major gig venues, like The Forum and The Rink.

This year, Night Trade has been curated by Puerto Rican performance artists, Poncili Creación, so you can expect a rotating, mind-bending mix of DJs, drinks, chargrilled BBQ, music and performance art.

RISING is playing cagey with the details on this one, but we do know that Melbourne-based DJs Wax'o Paradiso will be spinning the decks, and there'll be a giant Archie Rose negroni tank, Filipino BBQ skewers from the guys at Hoy Pinoy, bougie bar snacks from the Yarra Valley, and a 'sci-fi wine wall' with natural vino on tap, courtesy of Glou.

You can get a feel for the full Night Trade line-up here, but expect a few surprises during the festival. Entry to Night Trade is free, but "collectively suckling from a very big negroni tank" (their words) costs extra. We'll see you there.
