Overview

Can you solve a good mystery? Channel your inner Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard or Mrs Peacock as you roam around a historic jail looking for the conservatory, cellar and billiard room, and be wary of candlesticks, lead pipes and spanners.

That's what the Cluedo Experience is all about when it takes over the Old Melbourne Gaol. Postponed in July because of COVID-19, the interactive experience is back as of November 25 and is running from 10am–6pm every Wednesday to Sunday. The two-hour experience will see you searching for clues, questioning suspects' alibis, inspecting evidence and, ultimately, trying to solve the murder of shady lawyer Lion Grey who was found dead at the jail in 1924.

Opened in 1845, the Old Melbourne Gaol is where infamous bushranger Ned Kelly was hanged. So, expect to encounter a ghost or two during your investigation. The jail is no longer functional, of course, but a penal museum run by the National Trust.

To test out your detective nous in the Cluedo Experience, you'll need to jump online and snag a ticket, which is general entry to the Gaol (between $17–30 a person) plus $5. With COVID-19 restrictions still in place, there are limits on how many visitors — or, should we say, novice detectives — are allowed in the building at a time, so expect tickets to sell fast.

Cluedo Experience runs from 10am–6pm Wednesday–Sunday.
