Linden Cook's handcrafted fine jewellery is a thoughtful gift on its own, but a trip to the Fitzroy atelier really drives it home. Instead of just picking something off a shelf, spend some time messing around with wax impressions, picking out birthstones to set in solid gold or getting a meaningful message engraved.

A Mother's Day weekend collaboration with Resting, the sleepwear label from the Sheet Society team, is dialling up the sentimentality. From Saturday, May 9, to Sunday, May 10, guests spending over $350 will receive a pair of chic cotton pyjamas, hand-embroidered on the spot for a personal touch.

There'll be three designs on the rack, all usually a $240 investment: minimalist cream, blue-and-white stripes and a plummish gingham. A name or initials on the shirt pocket is classic, but get imaginative by adding motifs on the sleeve – inside jokes, pet names or just a tiny doodle that only the two of you would understand.
