Overview

This year's West Projections Festival has quite literally come out of the blue. Running every night from August 15 until September 11, the annual after-dark festival will see an entire suburb bathed in breathtaking blue light as more than 20 unique spaces around Footscray play host to specially commissioned works of pop-up public art.

Organised by Wynter Projects in conjunction with Victoria University, this year's festival, dubbed State of Blue, promises to be the most expansive yet. Sites include Littlefoot Bar, Footscray Railway Station and the Bluestone Church Art Space, while participating artists range from arts/engineering/science collective Skunk Control and Indigenous visual artist Paolo Balla.

Forming the spine of the festival are four free hour-long art walks, each of which will take participants on a different route around the suburb. There'll also be parties, roving projections and DJ and VJ performances – and don't be surprised to see a convoy of food trucks rolling around the neighbourhood, either.
