Overview

UPDATE: MARCH 13, 2020 — Due to concerns surrounding COVID-19, Melbourne Food and Wine Festival has postponed its March program. The organisers are intending to reschedule the program for a later date in 2020. Ticketholders will be contacted about refunds in the upcoming weeks.

Move aside, fancy food — it's time for good old-fashioned convenience store grub to take the spotlight. Popping up at the Queen Victoria Market for the duration of Melbourne Food and Wine Festival (March 20–29), The Convenient Store is an ode to the low-brow, high-satisfaction snackage of your local grab-and-go joint. Only this one's stocked with an array of top-shelf goodies from some of Melbourne's star chefs, producers and eateries.

We're talking katsu sandos from Supernormal; Baker Bleu's olive, feta and walnut stirato (a type of pulled ciabatta); a riff on Pop-Tarts from newly opened Falco Bakery; cheesy Vegemite scrolls from Lune Croissanterie; and a sweet homage to the Violet Crumble choccy bar as created by Gelato Messina. You'll also spy a reimagined Wagon Wheel courtesy of North Melbourne bake shop Beatrix, while, for the extra peckish, there's the monster-sized Convenient Motherlode — an Italian-inspired sandwich stuffed with ingredients from every single one of the QVM Dairy Hall's delis.

Also on offer is an exclusive 7-Eleven Slurpee flavour and a classic 7-Eleven coffee blend, roasted here in Melbourne. As an added bonus, the week's total coffee proceeds will go straight to support the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

The Convenient Store will open from 8am to 6pm daily — bring your card, as it's cashless.
