Overview
If you had wandered through the Docklands during the 1990s, you might have been surprised by what you found. For close to a decade, the area was at the centre of Melbourne's electronic music scene, its wealth of abandoned warehouses a natural fit for underground raves and parties. Now, the City of Melbourne is paying tribute to this significant (if not legally sketchy) period in its cultural history, with a brand new exhibition at the Library at The Dock.
Co-presented by Melbourne Raves, Electronic Music Alliance Australia and Monash Art Design & Architecture, the exhibition combines memorabilia, including posters and ticket stubs, with music samples, public workshops and even a virtual rave. There'll also be a selection of events in conjunction with the Midsumma Festival, including a queer history walk and queer rave knitting. Not exactly sure what that last one will entail, but you have to admit that it sounds intriguing.
