Overview

Late-night revelry and questionable choices often go hand in hand, and we're guessing you might just find a bit of both at Fitzroy's new (ominously named) haunt, Bad Decisions.

From the same minds behind long-running hip-hop club Laundry Bar and neighbourhood dive George's Bar, this two-level watering hole makes its home on the same well-known stretch of Johnston Street.

It's a cosy space designed as an homage to the things that can happen when we have a little bit too much fun — the many neon signs hint, more pointedly, to what these may be.

Inside, you'll find a healthy dose of leather and gold fixtures across the intimate VIP section, an openair courtyard and a private upstairs club room. Open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 3am, it's a spot for settling in and scheming, as low-key nu-disco tunes play through the speakers.

Behind the bar, the team is pouring a handful of wines and a tidy lineup of local craft beer cans, including a tropical sour ale from Colonial Brewing Co. More decisions await on the cocktail list, which is split into 'No Booze', 'Lil' Boozy' and 'Boozy AF'. Expect creative concoctions such as the Witching Hour — featuring lychee liqueur, yellow Chartreuse, black sambuca, anise syrup and dehydrated lime — and a bourbon, sherry and chai beverage dubbed Whiskey A Go.

It's the perfect place to hole up in during chilly winter nights, cradling a cocktail on one of the couches out the back — but, if you'd like to make it to the morning without making any of the bar's namesake decisions, keep your wits about you and don't let the signs lead you astray

Find Bad Decisions at 46 Johnston Street, Fitzroy. It's open from 6pm–3am Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
