News just in that the space that housed Cam's Kiosk up until its very sudden closure is not going to stay empty for long. When spring arrives, and the weather warms up, we're set to get a new neighbourhood favourite at the always bustling Abbotsford Convent: Bar Familiar.
"We feel so energised to create something special for the community and are uniquely placed to understand exactly what that should be," says co-owner Alessia Augello. Augello, along with co-owner Stephanie Lane, are stepping out on their own for the first time to open Bar Familiar.
It helps that the two are intimately familiar with the space, having both worked at Cam's, which afforded them front-row seats to learn what customers really want from the venue. With Bar Familiar, they aren't looking to recreate what came before but rather to build something entirely their own, while maintaining an unwavering focus on the local community at its core.
"It means so much to be able to build Bar Familiar together as former colleagues and good friends. We're excited to carry forward the warmth and hospitality the space is known for, while bringing our own ideas and vision for the future," says Lane.
And the founding duo are not the only ones familiar with the site. Head Chef Alisha Grant, who will present a Euro-leaning offering, is also a recognisable face from Cam's. Fresh dishes will sit alongside returning favourites, giving loyal fans of the venue a reason to return.
