This Takes the Cake: To Celebrate 125 Years in Business, This Bakery is Handing Out 10,000 Free Slices of Cake
"We know what we're good at, and we've spent 125 years perfecting recipes that have been passed down for five generations."
It's not every day you turn 125, so it's only appropriate to celebrate with cake, and plenty of it. Ferguson Plarre's Bakehouses achieves this massive milestone this year, and to kick off the celebrations, it will give away 10,000 pieces of cake on Friday, June 5, with any purchase in-store.
"In a world of trends and viral food moments, Ferguson Plarre has stood strong as a reliable and comforting bakery staple in local communities for years, with almost 80 bakeries across Victoria. We know what we're good at, and we've spent 125 years perfecting recipes that have been passed down for five generations of Plarre's, from vanilla slices and chocolate eclairs to the perfectly flaky sausage roll or tiddly oggie," says CEO Steve Plarre.

Otto Plarre opened the first Plarre's Cakes shop in Moonee Ponds all those years ago, which remarkably, is still in business today. "We're a family business at heart, so it only felt right to celebrate this exciting milestone with our wider family by sharing some birthday cake, just like we do at home. We're also keen to give back to our loyal customers who have supported us in the last 125 years, charging just one cent per year for our legacy items," says Plarre.
The celebrations don't end once the free cake is all served up. Each week throughout winter, an iconic bakery item will be featured on the special board for just $1.25 a piece for Sweet Rewards Club Members. Non-members can still join the fun with discounts of up to 30 per cent on bakery favourites such as meat pieces, cupcakes and slices.
