Overview

Aussies love a backyard barbecue and, perhaps now more than ever, we'll be having plenty of them this summer. But, if you're already growing tired of supermarket snags and shrimp on the barbie, it's time to take your chargrill sessions up a notch. Lucky for you, The Kraken Black Spiced Rum has teamed up with three leading Aussie butchers to help cut out some of the guesswork.

First up is Sydney-based seafood chef, awarded cookbook author and co-owner of Paddington fine diner Saint Peter and fishmonger Fish Butchery, Josh Niland. Known for his ethical and sustainable approach to seafood, Niland is pretty much the seafood king of Sydney, if not the world — so, it's safe to say his cook-at-home barbecue packs will impress. No, you won't be making his famed fish fat chocolate caramel slice, but you will be whipping up hot-smoked, Kraken rum-glazed Murray cod tacos, served with charcoal corn, jalapeño and avocado. The packs cost $55 each and come with all the ingredients you need, plus a recipe card and some handy cooking tips.

Next is Melbourne butcher Ash McBean of Gary's Quality Meats, who has worked with The Kraken to create dry-aged scotch fillets infused with Kraken's signature Black Spiced Rum. McBean advocates a paddock-to-plate and whole-beast mentality with her style of butchery, often serving up unusual cuts of meat. For the uninitiated, dry aging beef is a culinary art, intensifying flavour while simultaneously tenderising the beef — and Gary's Quality Meats is one of the best at it in the biz. So, you can bet you'll be getting the cream of the crop here. Each $72 pack comes with two Kraken rum-infused dry-aged scotch fillets. You can pick up a Kraken x Ash McBean barbecue pack from Gary's South Yarra shopfront.

If you're over on the west coast, Gavin Olsen, the man behind Olsen Butchers, has teamed up with the rum label to create yet another epic DIY barbecue pack. You can either nab yourself a tray of four jerk-style chicken kebabs, four pork sausages with roasted fennel seed and orange or two brisket burgers spiced with paprika — all at a reasonable $19.95 each. Just head to Olsen Butchers shops in South Perth, Roleystone or Booragoon to get them.

All three butchers have designed their dishes to pair well with Kraken & Dry or Kraken & Cola premix, so you can forget about fussing over drinks, too. Just pick up a barbecue pack from your city's respective butcher, fire up the grill, whack on some top-notch produce and kick back with mates on a balmy evening.

The Kraken Black Spiced Rum's BBQ with The Beast Packs are available from Fish Butchery in Sydney, Gary's Quality Meats in Melbourne and Olsen Butchers in Perth and come with a bonus four-pack of Kraken & Dry or Kraken & Cola — for a limited time only. Additional Kraken & Dry and Kraken & Cola bottles are available to buy with purchase. Or, you can shop the full Kraken range at BWS, Dan Murphy's, Liquorland, First Choice Liquor and a range of independent retailers.

Enjoy responsibly, 18+ only. Remember to Drinkwise.
