Overview
Point Ormond Lookout sits on a small headland in Elwood, a short walk from the beach, giving you an elevated vantage point over the bay that flat sand can't match. It falls just outside the alcohol-restricted zone of the St Kilda Foreshore, so you can bring a bottle of wine with your picnic between midday and 8pm without needing a permit.
Climb the grassy slope with a blanket, and you've got sweeping views across the water to the city skyline, best timed for the hour before sunset when the light turns everything gold. There's no kiosk on site, so stock up beforehand — Leaf in Elwood offers gourmet grazing supplies, fresh fruit and veggies, and plenty of other picnic-worthy snacks worth picking up on the way.
