Shiny new hotels keep popping up across the city, with the Ritz-Carlton and Le Méridien just a couple of Melbourne's latest accommodation arrivals. And now we've scored another addition in the Dorsett Melbourne — an eight-storey beauty that's made its home on Little Lonsdale Street.

This one has been imagined by award-winning architects Cottee Parker, showcasing a suave contemporary fitout that effortlessly nails the concept of mixed prints. Rich textures abound, while a vibrant, local-leaning art collection curated by Fremantle-based artist Anna Flanders graces the walls.

The hotel features 316 rooms, which will soon include a collection of pet-friendly suites for those travelling with a four-legged friend in tow. Meanwhile, tiny two-legged guests are sure to give a thumbs up to the soon-to-launch family suites, which will be kitted out with playfully themed rooms.

In addition to its good looks, the hotel boasts all the trimmings you could want from an inner-city escape, from the heated 14-metre indoor pool and state-of-the-art gym to a sauna and onsite spa. Come June 1, guests will also have exclusive access to the Club Lounge with its workspaces, meeting areas, and all-day — and night — food and drink menus.

Meanwhile, the Dorsett's hospitality venues are worth a visit in their own right, each showcasing a sustainability-focused food offering led by Executive Chef Julio Martinez.

The Port Bistro is serving up a daily breakfast buffet, along with a seafood-heavy dinner menu on Friday and Saturday nights. Think: Port Phillip Bay mussels done with garlic and smoked paprika, slow-cooked lamb ribs, and barramundi paired with kohlrabi and a caper lemon butter sauce.

Dressed in a nod to Victoria's historic gold rush era, the sparkly Jin Bar (named after the Mandarin word for gold) is your plush hideaway for sips and snacks. Here, you can kick back with a charcuterie board or Angus beef brioche burger while sipping your way through a list of bubbly, local vino, and cocktails both classic and signature. The latter includes the Dorsett's smoky answer to the old fashioned, built on fig and cinnamon bitters.

The hotel makes up part of the new West Side Place precinct, which will continue to expand with a suite of new hospitality venues planned for the coming months.
