Overview

According to Wikipedia, the International Carnivorous Plant Society (ICPS) is a non-profit organisation founded in 1972. It is the International Cultivar Registration Authority for carnivorous plants. As of June 2011, the society had around 1400 members and publishes a renowned quarterly newsletter, the Carnivorous Plant Newsletter.

Carnivorous Plant Society is a 'Mexican fantasy' band from Auckland with a namesake that pays tribute to this very important international institution. They have a new album called The New King which they'd like to bring into the world with an album release tour featuring "guests, stories, animations and the coolest instruments [trumpets, violins, vibraphones, tubas, guitars, synthesizers, keyboards etc.] under the sun."

Their music is self-described as "cinematic jazz music with influences from Ennio Morricone, David Lynch and Stephen King", blending mariachi, spaghetti western and sci-fi sounds to create a strange but enticing musical odyssey for the audience.

On April 7 you can be one of those audience members standing in the dark and taking part in the strange, but satisfying musical journey they'll take you on.
