Overview

Originally established in 1959 by a breakaway rebel troupe of 18 dancers that ran away from the more traditional Dutch National Ballet, the Nederlands Dans Theater has since garnered a name for itself as the Netherlands' most progressive, experimental ballet company.

NDT is known for its ambitious, unique and new ballets, with its choreographer Paul Lightfoot mostly avoiding any revivals. "It's about artistic creation, not just choreography."

Two works will be performed in NDT's Auckland shows: Woke Up Blind and The Statement, which premiered on 4 February 2016 in the Hague. The Auckland season will be the first time that these works will be have been seen outside of the Netherlands.
