Experimental Ice Creamery Giapo Has Created Two New Treats for Christmas
The festive frankencreations include a ring-able ice cream bell and a reimagined version of the Christmas pie.
It's no secret that Giapo is hell bent on reinventing the humble ice cream. The Auckland ice creamery has already changed the way we interact with icy treats thanks to hot cross bun-impaled waffle cones and an entire menu of unlikely pairings inspired by comfort foods from around the world (here's looking at you ice cream poutine).
Now, putting the research and development space on Gore Street to good use, the Giapo team has created two frankencreations for the festive season. Auckland's very own 'Einstein of ice cream', Gianpaolo Grazioli, says the idea is to challenge the status quo by "changing the function of ice cream and how people use it.
The Christmas Hand Bell consists of an upside down white chocolate bell and a waffle cone handle. The bell is filled with your choice of ice cream, then sealed with more white chocolate, decorated with a layer of puffed amaranth and freeze-dried raspberry which adds a popping sensation. It comes complete with a bow around the handle and a ringing bell.
The Christmas Mince Pie Cone is reimagined version of the humble dried fruit dessert. The yuletide treat sees an ice cream-filled pie casing impaled with a waffle cone before being topped with Giapo's fruit mince. The lid of the mince pie goes on to finish the affair with a dusting of icing sugar.
Giapo's Christmas ice creams are available now until further notice. Find the ice creamery at 12 Gore Street, Auckland CBD.
