Hamilton Craft Brewery Good George Has Opened a Pub in Mission Bay
You'll find the new beer spot in the old Rickshaw Eddy's venue on the corner.
Good George might still be a new name to most, however the Hamilton-based beer house is serious about brewing. Since first starting in 2012 the brand now operates ten part-owned and licensed sites in the country.
Good George brand manager Daniel McGregor believes that the growth is propelling a need for the boutique brewery to start a craft house in the heart of Auckland. The brewery's newest site, in our very own Mission Bay, is positioned in the thick of the action on Tamaki Drive in the old Rickshaw Eddy's venue on the corner — a spot which offers brilliant views across the Mission Bay reserve and the harbour. Across the bar, deck and function space there is capacity for 250 guests.
While Good George distributes through supermarkets and restaurants, Daniel reckons that tastings of craft beer are best done in a pub. Aptly, the bar is beer and cider focused. It comes armed with two 500l holding tanks so it's basically a brewery built in to the bar. The 18 taps at the Mission Bay venue feature the core Good George range of 11 beers and ciders, and another five rotating specialities at any time. Not only does the Good George offer classics such as pale ale (APA and XPA) and IPA, but it also comes up with delicious creations in the fruit and flavoured cider space — our picks are the Doris plum and Scarlett peach. Squealers and growlers are also available so you can take your favourite drop home.
For those who come hungry, Good George has got you covered with modern pub food, including charcuterie platters, jalapeno poppers, prawn cocktail, onion rings and jerk fried chicken. For something hearty, a range of pizza and burgers are also on offer.
