Mesob Brings Traditional Ethiopian Food and Coffee to New Lynn
Serving beloved Ethiopian dishes like doro wot and injera.
Gone are the days when a food truck in New Zealand meant punnets of chips and battered hotdogs on sticks. We've been increasingly spoiled for choice in the last few years as not only the quality of the offering has lifted, but also the diversity.
This month sees an exciting new entry to the Auckland food truck scene with Ethiopian cuisine and coffee caravan Mesob taking up residence outside LynnMall shopping centre in New Lynn.
Mesob offers a selection of beloved traditional Ethiopian dishes including doro wot (a spicy chicken stew), fragrant beef and potato stew tibs ye bere and of course the unique sourdough-risen flatbread injera (perfect used to scoop/sop up the tasty mains).
Those seeking a meat-free option can choose from a selection of vegan options utilising red, green and yellow lentils and an equally colorful variety of vegetables, and all main dishes can be mixed and matched.
For the morning (or slow-to-start afternoon) crowd, Mesob offer a handful of interesting breakfast dishes including Ethiopian-style scrambled eggs, as well as freshly made tea and coffee prepared the Ethiopian way, for those after a caffeine fix with a twist.
Owners Eden and Genet Tilahun and Henok Tsegay named Mesob for the colourful, artisanal lidded stands in which ineja is served — an essential Ethiopian household utensil which is also considered a symbol of shared meals, unity and prosperity.
The easy-to-spot red caravan is located beside LynnMall's main entrance.
