Uber Eats Is Launching On-Demand Alcohol Delivery in Auckland
The new service will be available from over 30 Auckland bottle shops.
Since its local launch in 2017, Uber Eats has shipped everything from puppies to ice cream. From today (Tuesday, March 23), Kiwis can have their favourite tipple delivered direct to their front door.
The new on-demand service will be available from over 30 Auckland bottle shops offering beer, wine and spirits. In the same setup as the food delivery service, all you need to do is log in to the Uber Eats app and search in the alcohol category for bottle shops nearby.
Before you replenish your margarita supplies for the weekend, there are a few rules to follow. The alcohol deliveries are only available between 10am 10.30pm and bottle shops may have their own delivery times within the timeframe. Uber says the feature has been designed with responsible and safe alcohol consumption at its core, meaning there are limits on the amount of alcohol you can order, under the legal requirements.
Users must verify that they're aged 18 or above when signing up for an Uber Eats account, when placing an order and when the delivery driver turns up — they'll need to see and scan a valid form of ID. If the driver observes that you're visibly intoxicated they will return your order to the store. Users can also ask to be excluded from accessing alcohol ordering and from marketing emails.
Uber Eats alcohol delivery is set to launch in Christchurch and Wellington in subsequent weeks.
