The Royal on the Waterfront, perched on Claisebrook Cove in East Perth, is a riverside pub fit for, well, royalty. It boasts uninterrupted views of the Swan River and a spacious waterfront terrace that's suitable for any occasion, from hump-day hangs to post-work sundowners. Optus Stadium lies just across the river, so if you've tickets in your hand, this is the perfect spot for a pre-game bev.

And sport is certainly the focus at The Royal, with popular games always on the nine big screens. There's also an array of sports packages available. At one end is the Private Booth, which, for $200, gives you a booth for up to six people, a private 28-inch screen, a $100 bar tab and three pizzas. At the other end of the spectrum is the $550 Game Day — it provides a private area, 60-inch screen, $350 bar tab and seven pizzas for up to 19 people.

Also on offer: an extensive wine selection that includes 35 wines by the glass and more than 100 wines by the bottle, and an impressive beer list that places emphasis on West Australian craft brews. Similarly, the bistro menu highlights the best local produce while nailing pub classics. To sample the full spectrum of regional fare, order a plater: The Royal Graze comes with artisanal meats, chicken liver parfait, pork terrine, pickles, cheese and condiments ($38). It's best enjoyed al fresco, by the water's edge.
