Knossos Palace
An incredibly important cultural site linked to the myth of the Minotaur and reconstructed in the early 1900s.
Overview
The Minoan Palatial Centres are thousands of years old, so it's not hard to understand why they lay in ruins. While the Knossos Palace forms part of this incredible archaeological discovery, it also offers a fascinating difference from similar remains found throughout Crete.
Upon excavating the site in the early 1900s, archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans decided to rebuild part of the palace using modern materials. Although not fully accurate, this transformed the site into an openair museum where visitors can explore the ancient past.
