Overview

The Giardini di Augusto, named for the Roman villa supposedly built here, is a panoramic, cliffside botanic garden. It's composed of terraces of greenery and warm stone, mosaics, water features, flower beds and formal landscaping.

It was originally intended as a winter garden for succulents in the early 1900s, but German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp and engineer Emilio Meyer created what would become one of the most striking green spaces in Capri.

This elegant series of gardens and walkways was given to the city of Capri in 1918, and to this day is both a place of great beauty and an example of the many species of unique plants endemic to this area of Italy.

Come at 9am to beat the crowds and enjoy the gentle morning light, or come later in the afternoon before closing and seek shade beneath the tall trees on dappled green lawns. At any time, you'll appreciate sea views along the rocky coastline and out to the Faraglioni and the shining blue beyond.
