After making its world debut in Melbourne last year, a travelling exhibition honouring the late Nelson Mandela is coming to Auckland.

Hosted by Eden Park, where in 1981 flour bombs were dropped in protest at the Apartheid regime and the ongoing imprisonment of the future South African president, Mandela My Life is the most comprehensive collection of the human rights icon's memorabilia ever to be shown outside South Africa. Alongside a huge assortment of artefacts, including warrants of committal for Mandela's 27-year stint in prison, the exhibit will explore the Nobel Peace Prize laureate's life through a series of film and audio archives.

Mandela My Life is supported by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, which is the custodian of most of the revolutionary's personal photographs, documents and memorabilia. The 800m2 exhibition will guide visitors through a multi-sensory, interactive and emotive journey, guided by the many names that Mandela was given throughout his lifetime. A concluding reflection features 16 paintings by artist John Meyer of key moments in Mandela's life.

The five-year worldwide tour is stopping by 20 cities and is expected to be seen by as many as 2.7 million visitors globally. Auckland is the the second destination on the global tour.

Mandela My Life will be on display at Auckland's Eden Park from April 13 to August 4, 2019. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, 12 February via Ticketek. For more information, visit the exhibition's website
