A spate of decidedly un-Kiwi summer weather is currently rolling throughout the entire country — and now causing a blow for summer festival hopefuls in baches up north. Get ready to drink your box huddled around a UE Boom in the lounge, because Matakana festival Summer Haze has been canned thanks to heavy rain warnings across the North Island.

With a lineup of iconic New Zealand acts like Shapeshifter and Fat Freddy's Drop, the festival's cancellation will be a huge disappointment to those pumped to shake off some of that New Year's dust by grooving to 'Wandering Eye' or 'In Colour' at Matakana Country Park.

Summer Haze organisers took to Instagram on Tuesday night to announce their cancellation and thank festival-goers for their understanding.
