One of the most influential and loudest acts to come out of the ‘90s electronica scene will perform for the first time in New Zealand this summer. UK duo Leftfield will make their way down to Tapapakanga Regional Park next February, serving as the headliner for Splore Festival and joining already announced acts Waxahatchee, The Reverend Peyton, Klangkarussell and Bonaparte.

Forming in the ‘80s, Leftfield rose to prominence in the turn of the decade with a strain of dance music that veered away from state-side offerings and combined the house genre with dub and reggae. They are attributed for penning the term ‘progressive house’, and given their affinity for thumping bass, received a ban from Brixton Academy after stripping plaster from the ceiling.

The group’s visit down under will also come off the back of releasing their first album in 16 years, Alternative Light Source.

As part of the announcement, Splore also added Dutch group My Baby, plus local acts Kinetic, Aroha + Tali, High Hoops, James Chesterman, DJ Takas, Ciazzmo, Joe Revell, Chiccoreli and Elementary to the lineup. They join already announced acts,

The Cuban Brothers // The Correspondents // Waxahatchee // The Reverend Peyton and His Big Damned Band // The Dub Pistols // Tkay Maidza // Jordan Rakei // DJ Sarah Love // Katchafire // Supervillains // Eno x Dirty // Tipene // Race Banyon // Klangkarussell // Little Simz // Hiatus Kaiyote // Bonaparte // Ragga Twins // Dr Cat // BNegao // Troy Samuela // Weird Together (DJ set) // Eastern Bloc // DJ Lady Flic // Greg Churchill // Dylan C // The Professor // Dastardly Bounder // Russell Brown // Pippin // Don Johnson
