After revealing his desire to create a soundtrack to New York City’s subway system, former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy has added further fuel to the fire by launching a petition for the project and discussing the idea in a video with the Wall Street Journal.

Murphy first spoke of the project to create musical turnstiles in 2011, where he proposed to replace the current monotonous ticket swipe beep with pleasant tones that when played in succession to create a glorious piece of music. And the busier a station, the richer the harmonies. He has apparently been working on the project for nearly 15 years.

He told the Wall Street Journal, "I started noticing that the subway sounds quite brutal," and "Given that all that information is already at the turnstile, why don't we just make it a nice sound? Just make it pleasant,"

Unfortunately, the Big Apple's transport officials aren't quite buying the idea, saying that they wouldn’t want to temporarily disable each of the city’s 3,289 turnstiles “for an art project.”

In response, Murphy has launched a petition to stick it to the man. Visit the petition at www.subwaysymphony.org/
