We think we're probably not alone in asking, what has happened to our summer? A spate of decidedly un-Kiwi summer weather is currently rolling throughout the entire country, scuppering our long weekend beach plans and now causing a huge blow for festival goers.

Long weekend festival Whangamatā Beach Break has just been postponed, thanks to wind gusts and heavy rain warnings. The festival was due to be headlined by New Zealand favourites Shapeshifter — the very same band that was due to headline Matakana's Summer Haze festival earlier this month, which also got cancelled due to the crap weather. We're sensing a very cursed theme.

Also set to perform in the festival on Saturday were Aussies Ocean Alley, plus local acts My Baby, Masaya and Flaxxies.

In a statement, Shapeshifter said they're "gutted, frustrated and in disbelief."

"We ask our fans for their support in this difficult time by holding on to their tickets for the rescheduled date."

Organisers said in the same statement that a new date will be set for the festival, with all tickets remaining valid. Refunds are also available for those who can't make it.

Thanks to the wild weather lashing the North Island we have a feeling Beach Break won't be the only festival to fall victim — we'll keep you updated with any new developments.

Whangamatā Beach Break was due to be held at Williamson Park on Saturday, January 28, but has now been rescheduled to a yet-to-be-announced date. All ticket holders are eligible to attend the new date or seek a refund — head to the website to learn more.
