The slump after New Year's Eve can be brutal — 12 months is just far too long to wait for another blowout on the dance floor. That's where Bay Dreams comes in. The music festival will once again carry the shenanigans into the new year with its fourth outing from January 1-4, 2019.

Following last year's sold out event, Bay Dreams will again be held at Mount Maunganui's Baypark. Organisers announced earlier this year that a sister festival will take place in Nelson from January 3-4.

Leading the first lineup announcement are local legends Shapeshifter who are scheduled to play the pre-party in the Mount on January 1 and headline at Nelson's Trafalgar Park on January 4. Dropping by from across the ditch will be singer and multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana, reggae fusion group Sticky Fingers off the back of two sold-out shows in Auckland and Peking Duk with their energetic live show.

UK independent drum and bass label Hospital Records will commandeer an entire stage with a lineup featuring Danny Byrd, London Elektricity, Spy, Logistics, Etherwood and MC Dynamite. Rounding off the international contingent are New Orleans rap duo $uicideboy$, British DJ and producer Macky Gee, and Pnau in their first NZ show.

Local acts are a large part of the lineup and will include: Ladi6, Home Brew, Katchafire, Delta Heavy and 12th Planet, and more. Further acts are set to be announced in the coming weeks, including a major scale hip hop artist for the North Island event.
