Overview

Calling all art afficionados! As part of the Matariki celebrations, free art night buses are being put on for one night only which will take you to special late night openings at galleries across Wellington for free. Yes, you heard right. Gratis.

The circuit will cover City Gallery Wellington & Te Papa (Wellington), Pataka (Porirua), the Dowse (Lower Hutt) and Expressions (Upper Hutt).

We think the Art Night event is inspired. Not only are you going to be treated to beautiful exhibitions of contemporary art, you are also going to be celebrating Matariki with live music by talents such as Matt Enright and Amiria Grenell, listen to intriguing talks, and indulge in food and drink. The buses will run in a circuit cross the Wellington region and you will also be schooled on board about what to expect at each gallery. You can find the bus timetable here.

Ever wondered about the origins of the Ka Mate haka? Want to experience a Matariki-flavoured Night at the Museum experience? Enjoyed watching Pa Boys and want to hear more? Wanted to check out Seung Yul Oh's exhibition? We think this event has a little something for everyone.

If you are looking for something to stave off those winter blues, this cultural experience will certainly give your inner art lover a dose of some much-needed inspiration.

Make a night of it with some friends, or take a date. The night will run from 5pm until 10pm.
