Overview
The Big OE is a Kiwigian rite of passage. Heading off into the great unknown with only a battered Lonely Planet and some stout walking socks between you and the open road is how Nu Zilinders get a sense of themselves and their place in the world. Or how they wind up on Interpol's most stupid list, whichever comes first.
As We Enter, a play from Slave Labour Productions - the folks who brought the Isle Of Man's most bizarre son to the stage in Citizen Gef - explores why the Big OE is such a fundamental for us. Using real life experiences of Kiwis on tour to tell the story of Simon, a young Kiwi travelling for the first time, As We Enter ponders the big questions about identity, culture and what it means to go from the ends of the earth to the rest of it.
It's got a five-night run at Bats so get in while the getting's good. One for any serious traveller's list, right after "Pamps" in Summer and Munich in "Oktober".
