Overview

Wellington is set to be the home of the fast approaching New Zealand Festival, so it's time align your calendars and make the most of these upcoming weeks. This year the festival will have a focus on the subject of Kupe Dreaming. This concept celebrates Aotearoa's history as a nation of voyagers with an array of performances and art showcases. Wellington's waterfront will be abuzz, and just around the corner, our national museum, Te Papa, will be adding to the excitement.

Te Papa is home to a vast collection of Maori and Pacific Taonga (treasures), which cover centuries of our history. So in light of the festival, the museum will be hosting a specialised behind-the-scenes tour of these hidden collections. The focus of the tour will be on the history of Kupe's voyages and New Zealand's place in Pacific culture. This is the perfect chance to get up close to rarely seen pieces of Aotearoa's history. So be quick to book your place, as the tours only run once a day and spaces are limited.
