Overview

In this talk series in conjunction with City Gallery, the New Zealand Institute of Architects are facilitating discussion about architecture in New Zealand- using exciting, engaging figures in the industry to produce a public talk series on monday evenings at the gallery.

In this week's installment, Chris Moller, architect and front-person for New Zealand's Grand Designs television series, takes to the forum with Tommy Honey. The question is simple, but provides ample scope for discussion: can an imported reality TV model serve serious discussion about New Zealand architecture?

Moller, in hosting the popular television show, has a vested interest in the importance buildings have on people. His part in the series provides an invaluable opportunity to expose a broad audience to the importance of architecture and its influences. A background as a practising architect, directorships of institutions such as CMA+U and PreFabNZ as well as numerous honours and awards makes him a valuable speaker to catch if you have an interest in New Zealand architecture (or, indeed international- he has worked in the UK, Hong Kong and the Netherlands also).

His co-speaker, Tommy Honey provides a second informed viewpoint that is sure to beautifully complement Moller's. As an architect, but also as a theatre designer and director, director of the New Zealand Film and Television School and Dean at Whitecliffe College of Arts, he has a unique critical view from years affiliated with television.
