Overview

For 20 years the DCM Bookfair has been helping out those less fortunate. The annual event is run by the really good folks at Downtown Community Ministry (DCM), a small local organisation who work with homeless across the city to find housing, manage their money, and make positive changes in their lives.

The book fair is the largest source of income for the charity, annually raking in over $100,000. It also happens to be the largest collection of secondhand books in Wellington. With some 90,000 books up for grabs (as well as CDs, DVDs and vinyl), some serious paperback digging is on the cards for attendees, and its not unusual to hear about rarities and collectables being found within the hodgepodge. Only last year a rare mint condition copy of the Beatles’ The White Album was snapped up by one lucky customer.

With two of Auckland's largest book fairs seeing out their final chapter this year, it's that crucial that support is shown for the DCM Bookfair. It takes place from July 11 - 12 at TSB Arena. Book donations can also be made at the DCM office at 2 Lukes Lane, Te Aro.
