You might not recognise the Drax Project boys when not stationed at their regular post outside the Reading Cinema on Courtenay Place, but they're the four-man student band whose sound has been described at alternative pop meets hip hop. They've become favourites of town-goers, and a bit of a landmark for anyone taking an evening stroll through the hub of the city.

Starting out as a musical duo, with just drummer Matt Beachen and Shaan Singh, saxophonist, busking for some extra cash and a bit of exposure, they were later joined by Sam Thomas, bassist, and guitarist, Ben O'Leary, and have been making waves in New Zealand music since. They played at Rhythm and Vines 2014, Wellington's most attended New Years show at Garden Magic, and Homegrown. They also released their self titled EP halfway through last year and have a whole stream of new music, new collabs, and new shows in the works.

This month, Drax Project team up with Esther Stephens & The Means, the psychedelic soul group who were acclaimed after their Red Bull Sound Selects tours and singles, 'Free' and 'Under You'. They've been circling the country with their album release tour, and Drax Project have been with them at every stop. Meow in Wellington is their last stop on their tour, a fitting home game for the Drax boys.
