Overview

Firefly Cinemas are doing a cool thing. They are bringing back two of the most important parts of history, and it is going to be great. Firstly, they’re bringing back drive-in movies. One of the best parts of the 60s, the 40-foot screen encourages BYO Doritos, drinks and dashboard-makeout-sessions. And the second blast from the past that Firefly is bringing back to life is Jurassic Park, the 1993 dinosaur flick that was responsible for the majority of '90s kids nightmares. But it was also responsible for this golden joke:

- What do you call a blind dinosaur?

A Do-You-Think-He-Saurus.

- What do you call a blind dinosaur’s dog?

A Do-You-Think-He-Saurus Rex.

So we will forgive them for the nightmares.

Trentham Racecouse is housing the event, where cars can drive in, and audiences can pull up a beanbag onto the tracks to either catch Frozen, which is screening at 6.30, Jurassic Park at 8.45, or both if you’re into it. Firefly Cinemas started up late last year and was instantly popular amongst Wellingtonians, with over 5000 people attending the films at some point over the summer season. This year the summer cinema screening will kick off in October and stretch through the warmer months until April to allow everyone the chance to experience the awesomeness of outdoor movie screenings.
