Overview

The winner of Best Solo Performance in Wellington’s 2014 Fringe Festival has been reincarnated. Everything Is Surrounded by Water is a show presented by My Accomplice, a Wellington production company run by the three man team, Hannah Banks, Paul Waggott and Uther Dean. The company is all about investigating interesting subject matter and presenting it to the world in entertaining forms. The want to bring theatre to the youth, and get audiences excited about performing and the stage. And their latest work, Everything is surrounded by Water, delivers on these promises, by essentially telling a coming of age story about the company’s very own Uther Dean.

The story follows Uther Dean’s epic saga through prepubescence. Starting from the selling of his naive seven-year-old soul, audiences witness the boy’s struggle to find himself and grow. Written by Uther and Hannah, and directed by Hannah, the show was well received at this year’s Fringe Festival. Being a solo show meant that Uther had full reigns over the project, and he used this freedom to bring the show to people’s homes and perform completely free of charge.

Since the festival, the show has been changed up a bit, but My Accomplice swears that the story has retained its intense and deep undertones.
