Adam Art Gallery

4 Kelburn Parade, Kelburn

Presenting projects by 50 New Zealand architecture practices, Future Islands is the New Zealand exhibition at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale.

The exhibition is quite a sight to behold — the Adam Art Gallery's spaces will be repurposed as a sky of sorts, in which floating archipelago forms hold intricate scale models of homes, settlements and futuristic architectural possibilities. They're new ways to live, and what a world. Built, not-yet-built and speculative projects feature, floating through the rooms. You can spot a miniature Athfield Architects community cascading down a non-existent hill, and yachts sailing on along walls.

Among the technical forms used are recycled materials, yacht-building techniques, audio-visual installations and hand crafted elements to offer an insight on Aotearoa's architecture through the eyes of those who shape it everyday.
