True ‘Vins de Garage.'

Overview

For the past couple of years, Garage Project has operated a second brewery lab out of Marion Street. Dubbed the 'Wild Workshop,' this place is where all the crazy ideas are tried, all the weird yeasts and natural fermentation projects that couldn't mingle with their commonplace brews up at the Aro Street brewery. And now, in association with Golding's, you can try the brewery's latest project.

GP has teamed up with old mate winemaker Alex Craighead, to create four new wines from the workshop. "At it's heart, this is true 'Vins de Garage' — wine from the Garage, in an urban setting, where nothing is off the table. Think 100% brett ferments and soured Pet Nats." It's going to be interesting. Below, we explain the wines and what you'll be able to taste from the Wild Workshop's first couple of vintages.

Sacrilege Chardonnay (2016)
An unholy union of Organic Nelson Chardonnay fermented with a unique strain of Brettanomyces, carefully selected for its strong tropical and stone fruit flavours. Choose wisely.

Devil's Punch Bowl 2017Sour Nat
Riesling that has been bottled mid fermentation and spiked with an acidifying hit of Lactobacillus. It's fizzy fruit in a bottle with a crisp finish that will leave you thirsting for more.

Bubble Pipe - Carbonic Brett Pinot (2017)
Bubbles, bubble everywhere, and not a drop to drink… yet. Nelson Pinot Noir that has undergone a carbonic bubbly maceration and then spiked up with a hit of Brettanomyces for an extra bubble kick. Drink slightly chilled.

Fun Juice – Sauv/Sem Pet Nat (2017)
Dive in and take a swim in this bright bottle of vibrant fun juice. Sauvignon and sweet Semillion fermented together and bottled Pet Nat. Time to get fizzy.

Sounds intriguing. Get along to Golding's and sip the future.
