Overview

Ladies and gentleman, a new fusion hobby has recently joined the ranks of leisurely pursuits: stand-up paddle board yoga. An unlikely combination of yoga and relative newcomer stand up paddle boarding (also known as SUPing), the even newer sport is slowly growing in popularity, recently finding a home on Wellington’s waterfront.

Surfers used to joke about those who do ‘SUPing’ - Jesus walkers gliding along the water top and getting in the way of the waves. Yet, the growing sport is becoming a craze for a reason; it is relaxing, great for that inner core and an all round enjoyable sport.  And what better way to do yoga but while sitting on top of the water, breathing in fresh air as well as a good incentive to keep holding that pose.

For the introductory class Megan gets everyone familiar with stand up paddleboard and yoga basics on land. No experience in either is needed and for the introductory lesson board, paddle, lifejacket and wetsuit are included ($35). The poses and alignments are designed to keep you on the board unless you want to be adventurous and hit the water.
