Irish Film Festival

Overview

This year as part of the NZ Irish Fest comes the Irish Film Festival, a first of its kind festival in New Zealand.

Running from 15-18 November, the festival will screen across eight venues in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Tauranga, offering more than 70 screenings of the best Irish cinematic talent.

The jewel in the festival's crown is the NZ premiere of Black 47. The gripping revenge western drama is set during the devastating Irish potato famine. It grossed over NZD$2 million at the Irish box office and stars Hugo Weaving, Jim Broadbent and Barry Keoghan.

As well as cinematic action, the festival will feature four extraordinary documentaries which provide an insight into the lives of Irish from all walks of life — from Older Than Ireland, which achieved an unprecedented 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, and follows 30 Irish octogenarians who pre-date the modern Republic of Ireland, to the feel-good Making The Grade, a SXSW breakout doco about piano teachers and their students and the joy of music in the lives of everyday Irish people.
