Overview

It's been 400 years since William Shakespeare's death, and 40 years since Circa Theatre's establishment. Why not celebrate the two somewhat together?

Taking on one of the most revered theatre roles of all time, Ray Henwood is King Lear. Henwood is an acclaimed actor, named among the nation's best, and the relationship between him and the director, unabashed Shakespearian master Michael Hurst, will prove to be a special one in this production.

One of Shakespeare's biggest, sweeping tragedies, King Lear will confront and reinforce your sense of what it is to be human. Mistaking false praise for love, an old man makes a terrible choice that destroys both his family and his kingdom. The story overflows with raw emotion and some of the greatest, most complex characters to ever grace a stage. The sheer force Shakespeare demands to even deliver his lines is telling from his use of language- a breathtaking scope of theatrical strength that takes both cast and audience to the edge.

Within this production, you'll find four theatre kings: Lear, Shakespeare, Henwood and Hurst. It'll be a magnificent production, and one not to be missed.
