Overview

Lady Liberty. Sculpted by artist Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi and gifted by France to New York, the statue was intended as a personification of American freedom. She stands, torch held high, welcoming immigrants to American shores. There are numerous dubious hole-pickers and sceptics who question French motives and the true intentions behind the gifted landmark, but never before has such a myth been told, as that danced by Infinite Dance Crew’s Lady Liberty.

The dance team retell the New York entrenched urban myth of the woman behind the statue. The real Lady Liberty is said to have inspired the artwork back in the 1880’s, and it is rumoured that she continues to dwell in the city, protecting the land and the people within it.

Wellington’s own Infinite Dance Crew is internationally acclaimed for their inspired performances, and this Lady Liberty rendition is another success. Their hip hop roots are embellished with elements of contemporary and lyrical dance, as they take audiences through the great urban myth of the lady behind the Statue of Liberty.
