Overview

The Dowse Art Museum prides itself on holding one of New Zealand's largest art collections, and this month that will be expanded again to hold accessories. The Language of Things explores the intimacy of jewellery worn on the body as a way of showing who we are and what's important to us.

The exhibition presents pieces that are beautiful to wear while making one think. They challenge social, cultural and political issues just as art has always done. The materials used raises societal curiosities and also encourages conversation. Over 100 artists have gathered from around the globe to curate this exhibition. You'll find pieces of jewellery, photographic and videographic work depicting the most traditionalist and obscure definitions of art.

The Language of Things will be running for four months. There will be a selection of talks and events throughout the span of the exhibition.
