Overview

You’ve probably heard of the famed fourteen year old world traveller, Laura Dekker, but now you can relive her adventures through her book ‘One Girl, One Dream’. The keen New Zealand born sailor began her global journey in 2010 with nothing but her twelve metre yacht. Two years of navigating the seven seas later, she finally completed the world circuit in 2012, and became the youngest person to circumnavigate the planet.

Her autobiographical account looks into the physical journey itself, as well as the myriad of trials and tribulations Laura experienced in her determination to embark on the world-sailing adventure. Battles against child services, the media and countless other dissenting authorities couldn't stand in the way of the girl’s dream, and her story is one of passion and drive, rather than one of a quest for fame.

Whether you’re into sailing, dreaming big, or just have a truckload of respect for such a young person living out her passion, the book is an interesting read. If you want to meet the star of the show herself, you can get down to the ASB Sports Centre to hear from Laura and have a book signed after the show.
