Overview

The NZ Art Show is an opportunity for talented New Zealand artists to showcase their work, and for New Zealand non-artists to see it, love it and buy it. The annual event consists of three full days packed with art and hundreds of art-lovers under one roof. New Zealand’s known and loved artists, as well as some brand new talent will display their creations for purchase, with the average purchase price being only $650.

Amongst the talent on show, is Daniel Max, or Maxy as he is better known. From miner to alchemist, he has a passion for photography, be it still life or moving picture. He aims to capture the beauty of people, including their culture and lifestyle, through documentary, and he has completed work for New Zealand giants including Vodafone, BMW and Fonterra. Another one to look out for is Lisa Grennell, who reigns from Timaru and graduated the Nelson Malborough Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Visual Arts. Her artwork is majorly sketching and screenprinting, and is inspired largely by nature. She aims to represent the governance of our existence, by contrasting the vulnerability of native birds, to the monarch’s hierarchical position. She also explores children and motherhood, modern technology and changes in ethical standards as her main themes.

For those art enthusiasts, the show runs a gala evening on July 24 with the 1200 places selling out each year. The event attracts those who enjoy discussing art and their love for it with others, where they can unwind and glimpse a preview of the gallery’s offerings for the year.
