As an obnoxious heckler once found out: Ryan Adams is NOT the artist that sings ’Summer of ’69’. Given the uncanny similarity to fellow musician Bryan Adams, the prolific songwriter (Ryan) has consistently been given flack over the song for more than a decade. Folk legend has it that one particular concert-goer took the brunt of his frustrations via a curse-heavy rant back in 2002, being singled out and forced to leave with a refund.
Unfortunately for that heckler in question, Adams’ decided to give into the requests earlier this year and actually performed his own acoustic rendition of the song. While he probably won't ever perform it again, Ryan Adams will make way through his impressive songbook along with his band The Shining in Wellington this July. The performance will be Adams’ first tour down under since a sold-out run in 2012.
Over his illustrious career, Adams has released fourteen albums - dabbling in everything from punk, rock, folk and indie - received several Grammy nominations, and even fallen out with New Zealand’s own Neil Finn.
He's also not to be confused with the Major League Baseball second baseman, also called Ryan Adams.
