ShakesBeer in the Garden: Taming of the Brew
Shakespeare and beer goeth hand in hand.
Beer and Shakespeare combine in this much-loved fundraising event, co-hosted by Southern Cross Garden Bar Restaurant, Garage Project, Playshop Theatre and Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ.
Running annually since 2013, ShakesBeer in the Garden is an improvisational take on The Bard himself. With ye olde references, characters and some audience suggestions, the improv team from Wellington's Playshop Theatre come up with their own imaginative Shakespearean plays on the spot. This year the performance will be loosely based around Shakespeare's five-act comedy Taming of The Shrew.
All money from the ticket sales will be donated to Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ (SGCNZ), a Wellington charity who work through Shakespeare to offer life enhancing skills to young New Zealanders. Garage Project has also created a special beer for the event. All proceeds from the 'Ruffneck' keg will be donated to SGCNZ.
