Overview

The country's only Academy Awards accredited film festival Show Me Shorts returns with a selection of the year's best local and international short films. Forty one films have made the cut and, for the first time, six music videos have been added to the programme.

The shorts have been divided into six themed sessions; Art Will Save the World, Bromance, In the Neighbourhood, Time Travellers, Listen Up and My Generation. Some high profile actors feature including Amanda Seyfried, Sally Hawkins and Jim Broadbent as well as Kiwis Loren Taylor, Craig Hall, John Leigh and Greg Johnson.

Highlights include Coconut, this film about a road trip gone wrong, which will have you in stitches for all the wrong reasons. Animated film Condom is also a crack up. When a little boy finds a used prophylactic in the park, his father is forced to explain what it's for. It'll make you laugh as much as it'll make you cringe.

One Minute Time Machine is for anyone who's ever regretted saying something stupid on a date. You'd think if you could go back in time and change what you've just said everything would work out, right? Well, it's complicated but it's also bloody funny. The Last 40 Miles is a poignant animated film based on a true story about a softly spoken prisoner heading to the electric chair. His matter of fact way of telling his story of innocence moves even the prison guard escorting him.
