Slow Reading Club

Overview

In an attempt to revive the good old days, when books were made of paper, cellphones could only receive texts of 160 characters let alone entire ebooks, and the word Internet was as farfetched as time travel and hovercrafts, is the birth of Wellington’s Slow Reading Club, held every Sunday at The Library.

The ideal opportunity for busy people to gather under the charming roof of Wellington’s iconic Library bar for a bevvie, some nibbles and a good book. The only hard and fast rules are no cell phones, no Internet, and no talking. The hour is one reminiscent of those dreaded ‘silent reading’ periods at primary school, although now the concept seems considerably more appealing.

The group is not a book club; there is no compulsory talking involved. Sure, if you want to stick around for a yarn after your reading time then you’re most welcome to chat amongst the other dwellers to make some like-minded literary friends. To be honest, the whole scenario sounds both refreshing and relaxing. A welcome break from the hectic streets of Wellington.
