Overview

"Jazz is not merely music, Jazz is America."

Wynton Marsalis, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra leader, embodies this in his third symphony, a moving journey throughout American jazz history.

Swing Symphony is a 20th century journey through ragtime, big band, bebop and beyond. Commissioned by the Berliner Philharmoniker, the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Barbican Centre in London, the piece is undoubtedly one of Marsalis' masterworks. The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Matthew Corey will also play other pieces within the All-American lineup.

In residency for the festival, JLCO and New Zealand's own Symphony Orchestra are giving audiences an exclusive immersion into the glorious world of jazz. 15 of the best jazz soloist and ensemble players in the world form the orchestra, which aims to foster an enriching and entertaining global jazz community. You really couldn't be in better (jazz) hands.

The other NZ Festival event with the JLCO sold out months ago- don't miss out on this one!
